If\(x\) and\(y\) are positive integers, what is the value of\( x –y\) ?

(1) The greatest common divisor of\(x\) and\(y\) is\(1\) .
(2)\(\frac{13x}{y}\) is a positive integer with exactly two positivedivisors.

Given :\(x\) and\(y\) are positiveintegers

Targetquestion: What is the value of\( x –y\) ?

Statement1 : The greatest common divisor of\(x\) and\(y\) is\(1\)
There are several values of x and y that satisfy statement 1. Here are two:
Casea : If x = 1 and y = 1, then the greatest common divisor of x and y is 1. In this case,

Problem Solving (PS) | The ratio of cost of a notebook and a pen for the shopkeeper

$

CP of notebook- 3k
SP of notebook- 4.5k (3k*1.5)
CP of pen- 2k

When 10 notebooks is sold, two pens are also given by the Shopkeeper. So total cost price is equal to - 34k (3k*10+2k*2) and total selling price is 45k (4.5k*10)

Now profit is 231 , thus 45k-34k=231 so k=21.

To find cost of a pen and notebook. 5k=105 so 105 (A) is the correct answer

Operating expense initially- OE= PE + IS (eqn 1)

Operating expense later on OE(102/100)=PE(105/100)+ IS(101/100) - eqn 2

Multiply equation 1 by 101 and the subtract it from equation 2

Thus final equation will be OE= 4PE or PE is 25 % of OE

HERE
OPTION A-when we substitute Value of x+1-1/(x+1)-x+1/x value is =1+1/(x+1)(x) this is positive was x>0
option b-when we substitute value of 17-1/x-17+1/(x+1)= -1/(x+1)(x) this is negative for all x>0
Option C when we substitute value of 17/(x+1)+1-17/(x)-1= 17(1)/(x)(X+1) this positive when x>0
then proved A and C is the Answer!
