Another approach is to eliminate the fractions at step 1.
Given: 1 + 1/x = 2 - 2/x
Multiply both sides by x to get: x + 1 = 2x - 2
Add 2 to both sides: x + 3 = 2x
Subtract x from both sides: 3 = x
