­Since, in question there is no constraint over x and y, we can assume x=y=1 hour, which means A and B are equally efficient,
now A+B together will take 1/2 hour only.
A has completed half of the work and B has completed half of the work, 
its fraction will be 1/2, put x=y=1 into answer choices, only E satisfies it.
