Let their respective salaries be j & k. Where j>k

Difference in 1998 = j-k

Difference in 2000=1.03^2 (j-k)

let j-k is some variable a

Increase in difference = a(1.03^2-1^2) ........use a^2-b^2 = (a+b)(a-b)
=a*2.03*0.03

So % increase= ((2.03*0.03a)/a)*100= 6.09
