We can assume values and solve this question

Let's take the first 10 positive integers

A= { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,10}

The average of set A =\(k\) =\(\frac{ 6 + 5}{2} =5.5\)

"If the four integers that directly precede the smallest integer in the set are added to it, what will be the new average of the 14 consecutiveintegers"

A= {-3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,10}

The average of set A=\( k_1\) =\(\frac{ 3 + 4}{2} =3.5\)

Therefore we can infer that the new average,\(k_1\) =\( k -2\)
