in example#3 how did you conclude that the total travel time for passenger train is 3 hours? what if after the passenger train overtook the freight train, it continued travelling ? in the condition it just say about departure time and overtaking time, however nothing mentioned about final destination in terms of time or distance. This is what confused me to build right R*T=D chart... I just found out that relative speed will be 20 mph and since 3 hours of overtake, the distance during that overtake
