(1) The number of female officers is 250 less than half the number of male officers.
A relation in terms of some numeric value will not get the ratio..
Insuff

(2) The number of female officers is 1/7 the number of male officers.
this gives us the required info..
Police force can contain either Male orfemale..
so\(F = \frac{1}{7} M.\) .
so\( T = F+M =M+\frac{1}{7} * M =\frac{8}{7} *M \)
