Data Sufficiency (DS) | Re: If the Lincoln Library's total expenditure for books, periodicals, and

$

given : b+n+p = 44,000

(1) b = (p +n) + 0.2 ( p + n) = 1.2 (p+n)

as b+p+n = 44000
1.2(p+n)+(p+n)=44000
2.2(p+n)=44000
b = 24000

Sufficient

(2) The total of the expenditure for books and newspapers was twice the expenditure for periodicals.
(b+n)=2p
so b+n+p=44000
2p+p =44000
p=44000/3
b+n = 2* (44000/3) = 88000/3

cannot find b alone.

Not sufficient
